Retrieving and reading the fault codes along with resetting the airbag light are all accomplished differently according to each manufactuerer's design. Below is a list of these differences.

Acura

--Prior to 2006, Acura Uses Flash Codes --Airbag codes can be read using a jumper wire and counting the flashes on the dash light. The light will flash a two digit series (flash, flash, pause, flash, = a code 21 on the fault code chart). The system can be cleared with a jumper wire or by a scanner. Subsequent to 2006, and for vehicles with an Occupant Classification System (OCS), reading and clearing the codes requires vehicle specific scan equipment and procedures.

--Airbag codes can only be read and system cleared with a European Airbag specific scanner

BMW

--Prior to 2005, most models utilized Flash Codes --the airbag light would flash a 2 digit code repeatedly before remaining lit continuously. (There are some Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models that DO NOT use flash codes at all). The airbag codes can be read by counting the flashes on the dash light (flash, flash, pause, flash, = a code 21 on the fault code chart). The system would clear itself once the fault was corrected. Subsequent to 2005, most models require a scan tool to read the codes, configure the controller and/or clear the light.

GMC

--Airbag codes can only be read and system cleared with an Airbag specific scanner (multiple styles available). Beginning in 2007, new SDM installations require configuration by manufacturer download.

Holden

Honda
